If you had of told me I would be writing a post about a lamb bar a month ago, I would have laughed in your face. I was riding a raw vegan kind of wave, with meat a much smaller part of my diet, and more so in the evening when my body naturally craves a heavier meal. Then Chief Bars happened. And then here I am, professing my love for a grass fed lamb bar, happier than anything.
Initially very suspicious to try this interesting concoction - lucky Veronika and Libby the co-founders are so damn enthusiastic that I couldn’t resist. Sinking my teeth in I was pleasantly surprised - the juicy, lamb / almond / current infusion came alive in my mouth and I went back for more. Curious as ever, I learnt this chemical free bar is high protein, high in iron and low in sugar.
It’s hormone free, a component super important to me - I don’t want weird chemcially altered foods entering my body as I know they will alter my own hormones, mess with my skin integrity and so much more that we don’t even know yet. I want my body to be clean, pure and as natural as possible - and with regard to meats, this means hormone free.
I think my favourite thing about the bar is that it’s high protein and super portable (it’s a bar - no brainer). Personally, I’m trying to increase my muscle mass and develop core strength in my body, which means my protein intake needs to be super high. However, even for my friends trying to tone up or even maintain their weight, protein is the perfect snack to keep your metabolism firing, provide you bundles of energy and keep you full. In meal times this is easy, but for that 11am snack or when that 430 hunger springs, it’s a little hard to go home and cook up some eggs or whip out a piece of chicken from your handbag.
So regardless of your goals, having high protein natural snacks are the way to go - and to meet your needs, you’ve got a Chief looking after you.
I get my bars from Health Space Whole Foods, my local health store in Potts Point. They are also available online - http://eatlikeachief.com/
