Long walks along the beach, curling up on your favourite couch with a blanket, a good book and a warm cup of tea, belting out your favourite song in the shower, splashing in the ocean…. we all have different ways of reaching our happy place and connecting with our souls. Regardless of how silly, childish or nonsense it seems, connecting with your inner self is hugely important to our happiness - and needs to be prioritised.
Many people say they don't have time for ‘me’ time - too busy working to save money for next euro trip, creating the perfect sugar free brownies for each 12 of your closest friends, attending parties for your best friends boyfriends cat or saying yes to every single social invite which comes via facebook. Obviously these activities are important to us, but have we ever stopped and questioned how important going to these events are - and what we could be doing instead that might be more meaningful?
Finding ourselves in the wilderness of life, exploring different elements of our personalities, making space to grow…. they might not seem to contribute much to your bank account or your relationships, however at the very contrary, those who dedicate time to themselves have the greatest capacity to be the happiest, balanced and effective human being, regardless of the task at hand - relationships, work, home.
So next time you say you don’t have time for ‘me’ time, remember this little piece of writing. Perhaps if you dedicated just a few minutes to yourself, you would feel rejuvenated, energised and refreshed - spurring you onto your next activity. For you to give your best to the world outside, you need to be your best inside - mentally, physically and spiritually. And at the end of the day, that’s what the world wants - to see you shine bright like the beautiful star you are.
