Prepare to get your sweat on, from the inside. As you walk into this sauna, it feels like pretty a-ok. Not too hot, not too cold, just nice. Like a good cup of chai. After about 15 minutes you notice a distinct pool of sweat collating on your skin, or for me, in my belly button. After 30, your eyes go a little blurry and sting a little - oh hello sweat. Then, bizarrely enough, you feel your shoulders being rained on: oh no, that's my sweat again.
So why did I choose an infrared sauna opposed to stock standard sauna? In terms of detoxifying the body and cleansing toxins, the former is much more efficient, subtle and purvasive: by heating the body from the inside first, we not only don't feel as hot as quickly, it means we are internally sweating more: approximately 7-10 times more compared to a regular sauna. Detoxing not only helps remove built up chemicals from deep within our core, it also helps circulation, which therefore assists in energy production. What’s more, after leaving the magical heated bubble, as the body has been warmed from the inside, the process of cleansing continues for an hour or two.
The other key advantage of infrared sauna is for our deep muscles: heating from within helps penetrate our core muscles: so for us practicing intense exercise, or maybe those under chronic stress; it will help relieve aches and pains. This is often experienced as a feeling of complete and utter zen or looseness in the body: yes please.
What I love the most though, is that the sauna session was shared with a girlfriend: we detoxed, swapped the latest on our weeks and compared perspiration. Now that’s an experience I’d like to have again.
Thank you so much to the team at Health Space Kings Cross for welcoming me to the clinic - you will be seeing plenty of me again. For those wanting to book in, visit their website or call 1300 364 180.
