Have you ever had a person to you ‘oh, a pimple there! It’s your hormonal area - you can’t do anything”? Me too. It’s the the most annoying, irritating comment because unless you have a DNA lab in your bathroom and a handy scientist at your beck and call, you probably accept that you simply have to ‘ride it out’. Naturally, I like to take the proactive approach and say that in fact, this can be changed, and you can take steps to have that clear, blemish free skin.
Firstly, acne is basically an overproduction of cells that line the pore - think of it like a traffic jam. Lets run with this metaphor, and say that the ‘vehicles’ aka hormones the cause the traffic jam are cortisol, released when under stress; insulin - secreted as a response to dairy, sugar and gluten; and testosterone - because of by dairy (again). This list isn’t exhaustive, but these are some of the key culprits. When these hormones are secreted, they activate androgens, and in combination with our ‘friend’ insulin, they cause that huge mount everest just around your mouth.
Another key element to remember that your skin looks as it does because of hydration - it's what takes your skin from zero to hero, plus flush away toxins from last friday night (the wine was exceptional, after all), and also assists in the reduction of inflammation too.
So now, you know that you have the capacity to control your skin and acne - it takes time, dedication and a lot of healing but if you want it, know it’s yours for the taking.
